DESCRIPTION:Yahad – In Unum\n17-Hour Teacher Seminar\nMay 31 – June 2\, 2026\nChesterfield\, Missouri Participants must have completed a Commission Level 1 workshop to participate.Presented in Partnership withThe Missouri Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission&The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum \nAbout Yahad – In UnumSince 2004\, Yahad – In Unum has been dedicated to uncovering a hidden chapter of the Nazi genocide by identifying and documenting sites of mass executions of Jews and Roma during World War II. This mission involves meticulous field research collecting eyewitness testimonies\, and locating mass grave sites. Over the past two decades\, Father Patrick Desbois and Yahad – In Unum have pioneered the integrations of modern forensic methods into the study of what has come to be known as the “Holocaust by bullets.” \nDuring the workshop\, teachers will:\nLearn about Jewish communities in the pre-war Soviet Union.\nExplore the key elements of the Holocaust by Bullets.\nLearn about Yahad – In Unum’s investigative methodology of research and fieldwork.\nDiscover the range of primary source materials central to Yahad – In Unum’s work  (Soviet\, German\, Polish and other local archives\, memoirs\, eyewitness testimonies).\nInvestigate in depth and cross-reference archival sources and eyewitness testimonies and learn how these can be used to enhance students’ critical thinking skills\, their ability to compare and contrast and their capacity to integrate evidence from multiple relevant sources and interpretations into a reasoned argument.\nLearn about contemporary mass crimes and genocides: mass killings of the Mayan population in Guatemala\, Yazidi genocide in Iraq\, war crimes in Ukraine.\nDiscuss how to address these topics with students\, help them realize the “whys\,”  “hows\,” and “whats” behind different genocidal events and lead them to a better  understanding of how collective and individual actions can contribute to current efforts  to detect and prevent genocide.\nDiscuss means of connecting the past with the present and of making the study of the Holocaust relevant to students’ lives.\nExplore ways to support students’ ability to respond to antisemitism and other forms of prejudice\, hate and bias in their local communities.\nLearn how to access and use Yahad – In Unum’s educational tools.\n\nBenefits of Participation\nOne (1) graduate credit available through Lindenwood University (application required;  an $80 fee will apply). All registrants will be notified of their status.  Confirmed registrants will receive the hotel registration link; those not confirmed will be  notified of future workshops.\nPrior approval from your school administration is required before registering.\nPlease register ASAP but no later than May 1\, 2026.\nHotels and meals for this workshop are state-funded with no cost to participants.
