Teaching the Holocaust in Missouri

Presented by the Missouri Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission

With the passage of the Missouri Holocaust Education and Awareness Act, all Missouri school districts shall be required to teach students in grades 6-12 about the Holocaust beginning in the 2025-26 school year.  Each participating school district shall provide a plan of professional development for teachers to ensure such teachers are adequately prepared to provide the instruction.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is to create a curriculum framework of instruction which will be made available to educators as outlined in SB 681.

The Missouri Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission is offering a professional training workshop on the Holocaust for Missouri educators charged with teaching this history.

Space is limited to the first 26 registrants. All registrants will be notified accordingly of their status. Confirmed registrants will be provided with the hotel registration link. Those not confirmed will be notified of future workshops.

Hotel and meals for this workshop are state-funded with no cost to participants.  A stipend will be awarded to cover travel and additional expenses. Participants in this workshop will:

  • Learn pedagogically sound strategies to implement the requirements of the Holocaust Education mandate in SB 681
  • Receive evidence-based resources to implement the requirements of the Holocaust Education mandate in SB 681
